Calculate GST for a list of amounts

When you have several straightforward taxable amounts, a bulk calculation saves repeated typing. The important first step is checking that every number uses the same GST basis.

Prepare the list

Separate GST-inclusive amounts from GST-exclusive amounts. Remove totals, headings, currency notes and unrelated columns. Put one amount on each line. Correctly grouped thousands separators are accepted, so 1,250.00 is one amount.

The bulk GST calculator accepts up to 500 lines. It does not infer columns from a complex spreadsheet or determine whether an entry is GST-free. A list of bank transactions needs classification before it is suitable for this tool.

Choose one mode for the batch

Select Add GST when all entered prices exclude tax. Select Remove GST when all entered totals already include tax. The result table gives a before-tax amount, GST and inclusive total for each row.

For example, exclusive inputs of $100, $250.50 and $1,000 produce GST of $10, $25.05 and $100. The combined GST is $135.05 and the inclusive total is $1,485.55. You can reproduce these figures with the sample values in the tool.

Resolve errors before exporting

An invalid line prevents exporting a partial answer. Check the numbered error, correct the amount and review the table again. Negative amounts are not supported; handle credit notes and refunds in an appropriate accounting workflow.

After checking the result, download the CSV. It contains numeric dollar values with a clear heading and a totals row. The exported file is created in your browser; the pasted amounts are not uploaded to CalcGST.

Know what the total means

The total adds individually rounded results. It is useful for checking separate amounts, but it is not always identical to calculating GST once on their combined sum. See our rounding guide for a small worked example.

Keep original invoices or receipts with your records. A CSV created from manually entered amounts is a calculation aid, not proof of a purchase, a replacement tax invoice or a completed business activity statement.

Common questions

Can I paste a mixed-tax invoice total?

The tool assumes every amount is fully taxable at 10%. For mixed documents, identify taxable items or use the invoice maker’s line-level tax options.
